Industrial Heritage

The Pearl Brewing Company's legacy lives on in every brick, beam, and bottle

1883: The Brewery Rises

German-immigrant brewmasters founded the San Antonio Brewing Association, which would become the Pearl Brewing Company. By 1916, it was one of the largest breweries in the American South, producing Pearl Lager - soon to be Texas's best-selling beer.

2002: The Transformation

After the brewery closed in 2001, Silver Ventures acquired the 22-acre site. Through meticulous adaptive reuse, the industrial campus was reborn as San Antonio's premier mixed-use destination, preserving the original structures while creating modern spaces.

2015: Hotel Emma

The crown jewel opened inside the 1894 brewhouse. Named for Emma Koehler, who ran the brewery after her husband's death, the hotel features preserved machinery alongside luxury accommodations and one of America's finest boutique hospitality experiences.

Today: Living District

The Pearl now hosts 25+ restaurants, a weekly farmers market, the CIA culinary campus, boutique shopping, and year-round cultural events. It connects to downtown via the River Walk's Museum Reach extension.
